Degree date and location CHANGE

Brothers All;

In an effort to support our Bishops and Priest, in this case the Bishop of Tucson and a soon to be newly Ordained Priest, I have asked that we reschedule/move the 2nd and 3rd degree that is scheduled on 7 June 2014 at Council 7114 to 8 June 2014.  Unfortunately Council 7114 cannot host this degree due to a scheduling conflict at the Parish.  I have asked the State Deputy Elect to consider Council 7114 for next Fraternal year.

Council 3855 (8066 N 49th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85302) has graciously offered their hall for this degree.  Registration will be from  9:00 AM to 9:45AM, 2nd  Degree Begins promptly at 10:00 AM, the 3rd Degree follows the 2nd Degree.  Ceremony typically completes by 2:00 PM.

Please pass this information to all of your Brother Knights that are considering taking their degree.  I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused, but as you are aware we are all called upon to support our Bishops and Priests (and future Priests), your State Officers will be in attendance for the ordination scheduled in the Diocese of Tucson.  Moving this degree will open the opportunity for our Brothers that were conflicted in supporting the Tucson Diocese or attending the degree.

 Thank you for your understanding

Memorial Day - Holy Cross Cemetary

A Solemn Remembrance
Remembering those who ransomed our freedom with their lives, the Knights of Columbus participated in Memorial Day services at our Arizona Catholic cemeteries on Monday, May 26, 2014. In particular, our Fourth Degree turned out in regalia to honor our fallen men and women of the armed forces and to acknowledge the great sacrifice that they made.  The accompanying photos happen to be taken at a Memorial Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale but is typical of the callout responses across the State.  Thanks to Brother Anthony Abramo of Council #7306 for taking the accompanying photos.

Sir Knights from Buckeye to Mesa participated in the Memorial Mass at Holy Cross cemetery in Avondale on Monday, May 26th . Assemblies represented were #3231 from Buckeye, #2736 from Mesa, #3145 from Phoenix, #2126 from Glendale, #1805 from Phoenix, #1294 in Glendale, and #2669 from Avondale for a total of 20 SKs.

Arizona State Council Knights of Columbus 2014 CHAMPION PROPOSER CHALLENGE

Arizona State Council Knights of Columbus
2014 CHAMPION PROPOSER CHALLENGE

Sometimes, the hardest thing about recruiting is taking the first step. Recruiting a new member can be as easy as asking him to join. Amazingly, many individuals haven't joined the Knights simply because they have never been asked to join. When the opportunity arrives, take the initiative and start a conversation with a potential prospect. It’s the first step for recruiting on a one-on-one basis and can yield very positive results.

You are invited to be a Champion Proposer!

Every active member of the Knights of Columbus in Arizona is eligible to participate. All you need to do is recruit a new member, be a friend and guide to them through their application process, escort them to their 1st Degree exemplification, and help start them on their way as a successful brother Knight in our Order. You may enter the contest several times. Please use one entry for each new member you recruit.

As an incentive to be a Champion Proposer:
Þ The Supreme Council awards all Proposers 500 VIP recruitment points  for every new member they recruit into the Order. These points are redeemable for KofC merchandise through the Supreme Council Supply Department.
Þ The Arizona State Council is randomly selecting one (1) Champion Proposer Post Card Entry, for every 100 entries received by May 1, 2014. We are planning on having multiple winners! The winner(s) will be announced on May 2, 2014. The winning Champion Proposer(s) and their wife will receive a very special prize:
2014 State Convention Champion Proposer’s Package:
¨ 2 Nights’ accommodations at the Del Sol Casino and Hotel, in Tucson Arizona on May 16 & 17, 2014
¨ Convention Registration Fees and $50.00 for travel expenses
¨ Tickets to the Friday Annual Service Awards Banquet, Saturday’s State Deputy’s Breakfast, Delegate’s Lunch and  Ladies’ Luncheon, State Deputy’s Reception, and Saturday’s Annual Banquet, plus special reserved seating & recognition
¨ Prizes are not transferrable. Winners can be Convention Delegates
Please use the 2014 CHAMPION PROPOSER CHALLENGE Entry Form to submit your entries today!
You can find the form on the Arizona State Council’s website.

For more information, please contact your District Deputy. He will be happy to assist you in your recruiting efforts!

Helping Vets - Tucson

The Father Henry Miller Assembly #2308 Sir Knights along with their Families and friends in Tucson are in line to create their own 'Breakfast-omelet-in-a-baggie.'  You could add; diced ham, onions, cheese, and peppers to make your own omelet. After the 'baggie' contents were cooked in a pot of boiling water, you could make into a burrito using freshly made tortillas!

Then in a symbolic gesture of our Assemblies support for our Troops, we had breakfast for dinner at about the same time our troops were eating breakfast overseas!

This fundraiser was combined with others, which allowed the Father Henry Miller Assembly #2308 to present a check for $1,500.00 to the Veterans Administration Volunteer Services (VAVS) in Tucson.

Charity Raffle Wrap Up

Brother Raffle Chairman, in the old days, the deadline for selling tickets was the first weekend in May.  Now with computers and cell phones, the deadline can move closer to the convention and you can actually sell tickets up to the week before the convention.

Now is the time for multitasking, you need [1] to remind everyone for the need to reach your goal or the stretch goal.  [2] At the same time, prepare the tickets for the raffle.  The process:

1.     Use your raffle committee or volunteers to help prepare the ticket stubs.  Use this project to get members involved with a council activity.
2.     Remove the staple/tab to separate the books of tickets.
3.     Make sure all the tickets have a name, 10 digit telephone number, and Seller Name
4.     Stamp or write your council number on the back of the ticket.  This validates the ticket for eligibility and is necessary to award the bonus if we reach the 10% growth in sales.
5.     In addition, you need to provide us with number of Century Blocks of tickets your council members sold and the names of the Knights that sold over $1,000 or more. See below. If you do not have any mark the form NA and include your Council number. Use forms on ‘yellow’ pager if you can find the originals.

If you or someone from your council is attending the State Convention and will bring the raffle material they need to know to:

1.     Deposit all personal check and cash with your Fin Sec and have the Treasurer cut a check for the total amount of tickets soldPlease do not bring personal check or cash to the convention.  If this is a problem, contact me ASAP on my cell phone. [480.818.1774]
2.     Communicate with the Grand Knight, Delegate, or District Deputy to make sure they understand the process.  Every year someone brings only tickets without money or a check without tickets and/or not report.  We need all three, a report, stubs, and a council check.
3.     Keep all three items [Report, stubs and council check] together.  The DEADLINE to turn in tickets is SATURDAY AT NOON].
4.     Bring [1] State Raffle Report, [2] Century and $1K form, [3] ticket stubs and [4] Council Check to the convention
5.     Turn in the tickets Friday or Saturday morning before 12:00 noon.

Thanks everyone for your help with this very important Charity Raffle.  C U at the convention!

2014 State Warden - Necrology Report

Tom Kalisz
State Warden
7125 W Planada Lane
Glendale, AZ 85310

March 5, 2014

Worthy Grand Knight,

Preparations are underway for our 107th State Convention to be held on May 16th and 17th, in Tucson, AZ.  We look forward to seeing all of you there.

One of the focal points at the Saturday evening Memorial Mass is the reading of the State Necrology List.  This list consists of the names of deceased Brother Knights from each Arizona council who have been called to their eternal rest since last year’s Convention.

Your council’s Necrology list should consist of the names of Brothers who have died between May 1, 2013 and April 30, 2014.

Due to the time it takes to prepare the full Necrology List please provide your council’s Necrology list to me by May 3, 2014.   You can send it to me via email (preferred) or by US Mail.   This date is very firm.   The final list must be compiled and then go to the printers.   If your council’s list is late your departed Brother’s name might not get included on the printed version of the list. Please do your best to be on time.

One last thing - please denote any Brothers you have included on your list that served as either a District Deputy or State Officer.

Once again, thank you for your timely response to this request.  Our past Brother Knights deserve to be remembered at this special Mass.

Vivat Jesus,

Tom Kalisz
